It seems getting kicked off the United States men's national team did Fabian Johnson a world of good.

Because since then, he has scored in consecutive UEFA Champions League games with his club team Borussia Moenchengladbach.

On Nov. 3, Johnson scored against Juventus. On Wednesday, he was at it again.

In the 68th minute of Gladbach's 4-2 win over Sevilla, a ball was squared to him on the left in an acre of space. He took a touch inside to beat a defender and then curled a sweet shot around goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

After Johnson asked out of a playoff with Mexico for a spot at the 2017 Confederations Cup during extra time, U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann publicly lambasted him for letting his teammates down and sent him home before the friendly with Costa Rica three days later.

Johnson was brought back for the first World Cup qualifiers the next month and scored upon his return in a 6-1 win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

As the only American in this year's Champions League, he is arguably having the best season of any Yank in Europe.

So … thanks, Jurgen?
