Croatian players immediately went over to the corner of the field where the flares came from and pleaded with the fans, but the fans continued to pelt the field with objects. UEFA has already reportedly opened discliplinary proceedings.

The game was delayed for between five and 10 minutes. It’s unclear what led to the flare-throwing, but a small portion of the Croatian supporters section had cleared out as stadium security climbed into the section, which was once completely full. And apparently:

Croatia led the game 2-1 at the time, but conceded a penalty kick minutes later. The Czechs converted the penalty, and the game ended 2-2.
