Yoga session keeps U.S. women’s team away from deadly shooting in their hotel

Hope Solo thankful for yoga. (Twitter)A fatal shooting (reportedly of a local gang leader, see update below) occurred in the restaurant of the Vancouver, B.C. hotel where the U.S. women's national team is staying for the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament on Tuesday night. And according to goalkeeper Hope Solo, the members of the team were only kept away from the scene of the city's first murder of 2012 by a yoga session in another part of the hotel.

"Saved by our instant yoga session. Was about to walk to starbucks when all hell broke loose in the lobby of our hotel! Life is precious..." she tweeted after a man was shot multiple times, according to the Vancouver Sun.

    From Goal.com:

"The entire U.S. delegation is fine and no players or staff witnessed the incident," read a statement issued by the team. "U.S. Soccer has taken the proper precautions to ensure the safety of the team for the duration of the competition."

The Vancouver Police confirmed that around 8:45 p.m. PT on Tuesday there was a shooting inside Bar One restaurant of the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Center, which is where the team is staying during the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

UPDATE: Though the identity of the victim has yet to be officially released, The Province reports that it was 36-year-old Sandip Duhre, a "notorious gangster marked for death since 2005." Duhre, along with his two brothers, was head of the Duhre Group, which includes 50 to 100 members and is a major force in the area's drug trade.

[Rewind: Hope Solo was told she had 'too much muscle' for 'DWTS']

So it seems the U.S. women's team have discovered that avoiding gangland executions is another health benefit of doing yoga. And since we're on the topic, here's what one of their yoga sessions looks like...

A guy gets gunned down in the lobby of a hotel, but it's okay because the famous athletes weren't hurt. "Forget the victim, let's see a yoga video!" Our society sucks.

Looks like we have some pretty stupid people here. Why do so many people think that guns are illegal in Canada? Did your politicians tell you that?

For those of yall commenting on how we can be so quick to "forget who died," read the article again.
A GANG LEADER was shot dead who reportedly lead drug trafficking in the area.

I'm glad that the USWNT is safe, but the gang leader? I don't care one bit.

What amazes me most is that a gang was involved, so we once again are controlled by people who are in every town usa and canada and europe etc..... and we give them noteriety, and hommage for their works and terror on innocent people, we have task forces aand gang squads for what, to make payrolls for jobs that don't fix the problems... Don't you think its about time gangs were eliminated , and we could stop wasting money paying people who don't fix that sector of corruption, thank god the famous weren't killed or hurt, but what about regular people, time to fix this crap, don't you think.....

why would you name a drug gang after yourself? Make it a bit easier to be hunted down, no? At least make an attempt to be low key and secret!

Lucky for me that I was home and had no intention of ever going to that restaurant...
and because of that, my life was spared. How many billion more people can write the same story?
    • Matt  •  4 months ago
Gangs are domestic terrorists. They should be officially labeled as such; treated as enemy combatants as part of the war on terror, and rounded up, detained, prosecuted, or deported. Even though this is a Canadian incident, it sheds light on a problem back home.

I thought guns were illegal in Canada. I guess the gang member didn't know handguns are not allowed in Canada! Just maybe, one of the soccer team members could have avoided the attack if they would have been pack'n some heat. Oh, that's right, they weren't even a witness to the first murder in the city for 2012! I really don't know why I was drawn to this story or even to comment on such stupid news!?
