Wolfsburg’s Ivan Perisic hits both posts and crossbar with one unlucky shot

Hitting the woodwork three times in a single game might be considered unfortunate, but to do it all in one shot is insanely unlucky.

Wolfsburg beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 on the final day of the Bundesliga season on Saturday, in a match that saw both sides competing for automatic Europa League qualification next season.

In the 52nd minute, Croatian winger Ivan Perisic attempted a left-footed shot from a very narrow angle on the left side of the box. Incredibly, it hit the left post, crossbar and right post before rebounding back onto the field for a teammate to smash into row Z.

The 25-year-old must have believed the Gods of Woodwork were against him, as he had already hit the bar with a free kick attempt in the first half.

Fortunately, Perisic's Godfather-style visions of waking up on Sunday morning with a severed goalpost in his bed were abated when he nodded home a nothing-but-net header from a set piece with around 20 minutes to go.
