Wayne Rooney scores brilliant blindfolded volley in ‘telepathic’ test

Dwight Yorke and Andy (sorry, Andrew) Cole formed a deadly strike partnership at Manchester Utd in the late 90s and early 2000s, perhaps reaching the height of their powers in the 1998-99 treble-winning season, in which they scored a combined 53 goals. Their success was put down to an intrinsic understanding of one another's movement, described by some as 'telepathic'.

To put this to the test, one of Utd's betting partners pitted Cole and Yorke against their present day triumvirate of forwards — Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Chicharito — in a blindfold test.

It's a pretty amusing video, the highlight of which is probably Rooney's attempts to put away a cross from Danny Welbeck (who isn't wearing a blindfold! cheating!). After a bundled header and an attempt at recreating the bicycle kick goal voted the best in Premiership history, Rooney connects with a rifle of a volley that most mortals couldn't score with both eyes and multiple attempts.

Of course, this isn't a true test of the understanding between strikers (a large part of the skill is having the vision to anticipate runs, which involves having eyes) and there were probably a zillion outtakes, but at least no Liverpudlian comedians were harmed in this blindfold test...
