Utrecht defender scores baffling comedy own goal

Utrecht centerback Mike van dor Hoorn had really bad time during Sunday's match against AZ Alkmaar. In the first half, Jozy Altidore completed the fastest hat trick in AZ's history (37 minutes) with the help of two penalty kicks. Then just before halftime, Van der Hoorn added to the pain himself in ridiculous fashion by scoring an own goal on an empty net with a sorry attempt at a clearance.

Utrecht goalkeeper Jeroen Verhoeven deflected a shot from AZ's Roy Beerens near the post and the ball went to Van der Hoorn, who tripped over his own two feet as he tried to clear the ball wide of the post, but found the net instead. It was such a painful moment that even AZ players were giving him a consoling pat on the back as he jogged back up the pitch for the restart. And as you can see in the video below, Dutch TV tried to make him feel better by compiling a montage of own goals set to "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."

AZ went on to win 6-0.
