The U.S. and Germany played a scoreless first half in the soggy conditions of Recife, Brazil as they play their decisive final group-stage match. The Germans have maintained the majority of possession and threatened U.S. goalkeeper several times, but couldn't finish until the 55th minute when Thomas Muller made it 1-0.

Germany brought striker Miroslav Klose on at halftime, showing their intent to go for goals and not settle for a draw.

If the U.S. can secure at least a draw, they will advance to the round of 16, but a loss would require a favorable outcome in the group's other match between Portugal and Ghana.

Portugal took a 1-0 lead on a Ghana own goal in the first half, but Ghana equalized in the 57th minute. A draw there would also send the U.S. through to the next round, but a Ghana win would mean the U.S would need a result of their own.
