Starting the season with a loss against the same team David Moyes' Man United beat to begin last season invited unwanted and previously unthinkable comparisons for new manager Louis van Gaal. And the second match of the season didn't help him in that regard. So to track Van Gaal's progress compared to Moyes' record setting failures, DT introduces The Moyes-O-Meter.
Moyes: Swansea City 1-4 Man Utd, Man Utd 0-0 Chelsea (4 points, 4th place)
Van Gaal: Man Utd 1-2 Swansea City, Sunderland 1-1 Man Utd (1 point, 13th place)
Comments after second game
Moyes: "I thought we played well and I'm disappointed we didn't get a goal. Maybe we lacked a bit of cutting edge with our final pass and final cross."
Van Gaal: “That is not good enough for Manchester United. Our passing let us down, we need more creative passing.”
Advantage: Van Gaal
Moyes-O-Meter rating: Even Moyes. Despite having an easier start, Van Gaal hasn't been able to match Moyes' results so far, but he is trying to implement a new system and he has to rebuild his team's confidence after last season's debacle. For the time being, his less awkward handshakes are enough to keep him even with David Moyes overall. The addition of Angel Di Maria should help, but improvements must be made and made quick. No manager can get by on his handshakes alone.
