A day that was supposed to be full of pride for Manchester United with the acquisition of Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid for a British record fee ended up shrouded in embarrassment by a 4-0 loss to League One side MK Dons in the second round of the Capital One Cup. Winless in the Premier League through two matches and now eliminated from the League Cup, the start to Louis van Gaal's reign Man United is actually going worse than David Moyes' last season — something that scientists and pundits believed to be impossible.

Again, 20-time English top-flight champions Manchester United lost 4-0 to MK Dons — a team moved to a town that has only existed since 1967. This has actually happened in real life. And here are the images to prove it...

Will Grigg scores his first goal of the evening in the 25th minute. Surprising, sure, but far from the first time the minnow has scored an early goal against a bigger club.

After Grigg scored again in the 63rd minute, panic began to set in for Man United and Van Gaal gave one of his staffers the subtle "what the f*** is happening..." look. The recipient of that ocular slap replied with a "don't blame me!" eyebrow shrug.

When Benik Afobe scored MK Dons' third goal just seven minutes later, he celebrated by showing that even he had no idea what was happening and whether this meant that humanity now has to redo all aspects of modern civilization.

Afobe scored his second goal in the 84th minute and one guy on Man United's bench started chugging orange colored grain alcohol in a Gatorade bottle.

Ryan Giggs literally facepalmed and orange booze guy wished he had more orange booze.

Man City striker Edin Dzeko laughed.

Van Gaal closed his eyes and tried to imagine he at home, eating ice cream and silently weeping while listening to ABBA.
