For years now, the droning buzz of vuvuzelas has assaulted everyone's ears. But now the plastic horns themselves are being used as weapons against referees. During Saturday's South African Premier League match between Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows, two fans were so angry about the referee's decision to show a red card that they stormed the pitch and one of them hit the ref with his vuvuzela.

The fan evaded security and ran at least 100 metres from the side of the pitch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, one of the venues for the 2010 World Cup, swinging the plastic trumpet at referee Lwandile Mfiki but missing him.
A second fan of Kaizer Chiefs, the country's most popular club playing a vital match in their bid for a first league title in eight years, was intercepted after also hurdling on to the pitch from the stands.
The incident came after the referee had sent off Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane for a dangerous tackle in the first half, sparking protests from the players and a heated exchange of words between the two benches.
According to Reuters, both pitch invaders were arrested and charged with assault. The referee was not hurt, though he might need some counseling now that he's "the guy who has hit with ta vuvuzela."
Even after being reduced to 10 men, Kaizer Chiefs still held on for a 0-0 draw and remain atop the league table by a seven-point margin.
