At a Berlin Film Festival press conference for Lars von Trier's new film Nymphomaniac, actor and plagiarism performance artist Shia LaBeouf gave an unexpected reenactment of Manchester United legend Eric Cantona's famous "When seagulls following the trawler..." statement. Cantona made the original statement at a press conference in 1995 after he was arrested for assault and banned eight months for delivering a kung fu kick to the chest of a heckling Crystal Palace fan during a match.
LaBeouf didn't just repeat the line, though. He even took a drink of water for dramatic effect at the same point Cantona did and, also like Cantona, walked out of the press conference once he finished saying it. Here's the original...
LaBeouf, who recently announced he is "retiring from all public life," did later appear for the premiere of the film, but he did so with a paper bag over his head that read "I am not famous anymore."
Thankfully, he did not kick anyone in the chest.
