Samuel Eto'o was a last-minute addition to Chelsea's starting XI for their match against Spurs when Fernando Torres suffered an injury during warmp-ups. Luckily, Eto'o had his special smelling salts to help him get ready.
In the second half, perhaps after a few more hits of his smelling/bath salts, Eto'o came alive and scored in the 56th minute. He then took the opportunity to respond to speculation about his age, which began when Jose Mourinho was secretly recorded saying that the officially 32-year-old striker might actually be 35. Eto'o's ex-girlfriend then came out of the shadows to say he's not 35, but 39.
At the time, Eto'o responded brilliantly enough by saying, "It takes more to worry me, I'm Samuel Eto'o." Then he joked: "Fortunately I can still score goals at 35-36 years. At 36 or 37, I still score goals against Manchester United."
But after scoring agianst Spurs, he added one last bit of hilarity to the subject by holding his back and hobbling to the corner, where he grabbed the flag and pretended to use it as a walking stick.
Moments later, Eto'o went down in the box with a bit of contact from Younes Kaboul, which resulted in a red card for the Spurs defender and a spot kick for Chelsea, which Eden Hazard converted to make it 2-0. Eto'o was then subbed off in the 76th minute because his job was done and 76 might be his true age.
The man who came on for him, Demba Ba, made it 3-0 against 10-man Spurs in the 88th minute and then added another on an empty net a minute later. It remained 4-0 when the final whistle blew, extending Chelsea's lead atop the table to seven points over second-place Liverpool.
