A day after the murder of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, four Premier League clubs paid tribute to the victims by wearing black armbands during their matches on Saturday. Liverpool, Aston Villa (who both have American owners), QPR and Fulham all wore the armbands, with QPR's official Twitter account stating that the show of respect was carried out at the request of their players.

QPR beat Fulham 2-1 for their first win of the season while Aston Villa beat Liverpool  3-1. Liverpool also paid tribute to former captain and manager Phil Taylor with a minute's applause before the match.

UPDATE: There was also a moment of silence prior to Celtic's Scottish Premier League match against St. Mirren.
