World Cup opening ceremonies have never been the high water mark of live entertainment, but Pitbull apparently felt actual high waters would come into play judging by the pants he wore for his part of the show.
Broken into three acts — nature, people and football — the 25-minute performance started off in the half empty Arena Corinthians with people dressed as trees and flowers running around a giant ball of LED lights, presumably how trees and flowers would if they were actually people.
After the plant people came the people people, who danced and did martial arts and were seatbelted into canoes.
Then there were the space people from planet football.
Claudia Leitte, Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull then emerged from inside the LED light ball to perform their much criticized official song of the 2014 World Cup "We Are One (Ole Ola)."
Finally, saving the best part for last, a paraplegic in a first of its kind exoskeleton controlled by his mind kicked a ball. This was the product of 30 years of work for Brazilian doctor Miguel Nicolelis and his team of 156 scientists from around the world.
