Costa Rica sealed a place in the World Cup knockout stage by following an unexpected win over Uruguay with an even more unexpected win over Italy. Thousands of fans gathered in San Pedro, Costa Rica to watch the 1-0 victory over the Italians that put Los Ticos at the top of Group D and when the match ended, the jubilant mix of horns and drums and delighted voices took over.

Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solís even took time to celebrate with locals from a balcony.

As impressive as the sea of red in the streets of San Pedro was, the joy of all those people was matched and probably surpassed by that of the players in Brazil. Costa Rica assistant coach (and one of the country's greatest ever players) Paulo Wanchope shared a video of the dressing room dance party after the match.

Wearing the shirts of the international superstars they just humbled, the Costa Rican players bounced around the room with their nation's flag. And though they were far away from all the fans back home, they were all united in their celebration of this remarkable accomplishment.
