In his first competitive match since his emotional return to his beloved Milan, Kaka's injury troubles that plagued his time at Real Madrid returned. He suffered a left adductor injury during Milan's 2-2 draw against Torino and was so disappointed by the unlucky turn of events that he's decided not to accept his salary until he's healthy again.
From the Guardian:
"I have spoken at length with the club and in the end I decided that I don't want anything from Milan except love and support until I'm fully fit and ready to play," he said. "So I have decided to not to be paid for this period of time. The only thing that I ask is the support and help to recover in the best way.
"I have started my rehabilitation and the support from you [the fans] and everything I have heard in the last couple of days really drives me on and makes me determined to come back as soon as possible."
Kaka already agreed to accept a major pay decrease in order to make his transfer happen, so this is really just one more example of how much more Milan means to him than money. Anyway, Michael Owen is just glad no one came up with this idea while he was still player/always injured.
UPDATE: Milan vice president Adriano Galliani added that Kaka was in tears when he informed him of the injury. From Football Italia:
“Kaka has made an extraordinary gesture in deciding not get paid while injured,”Galliani told reporters.
“He deserves to be applauded.
Kaka was crying because of his injury when I spoke with him on the phone yesterday.
“It's nothing to ashamed of."
So to recap, crying Kaka only wants love and support and no money while he's injured. Right now people all over the world are booking flights to Milan just to hug him.
