Julian Draxler scores for Schalke then suffers nasty wrist injury

Schalke was heading for its second win of Champions League Group B on Wednesday night when Montpellier's Souleymane Camara spoiled the fun with a 90th-minute equalizer. Yet the last-gasp 2-2 draw wasn't the most painful aspect of the night for Die Königsblauen's midfielder Julian Draxler.

Things were going well for the talented 19-year-old in the first half when he scored Schalke's opener, but in the 53rd minute he was fouled from behind by defender Garry Bocaly, and promptly stepped on by goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren. Bocaly was sent off and a penalty was awarded, but the young German wasn't in any position to convert from the spot, having fallen awkwardly during the incident and bending his wrist in directions wrists aren't meant to be bent in.

It's the second Champions League limb-based injury in two days after Carles Puyol dislocated his elbow against Benfica.

At the time of writing it's unknown how long Draxler will be out for, but thanks to some very scientific sideline tests, the Schalke physio has discovered that the injury is painful...
