The universe really does not like Iker Casillas right now. Finally given the chance to start in a competitive match for Real Madrid again, Casillas only lasted 15 minutes before he had to come off with an injury. Inflicted upon him by his own teammate. It's like something out of a modern day Book of Job.
As Casillas jumped to make a routine catch, teammate Sergio Ramos collided with him, attempting to limit contact by driving his forearm into Casillas' ribs. It didn't appear to be a particularly hard impact, but Casillas immediately put a hand to his side and winced, marking an end to his day a few minutes after having his midsection wrapped. So it seems Ramos has moved on from breaking trophies to breaking teammates.
It was a broke hand (the result of a kick from teammate Alvaro Arbeloa) that spelled the end of his time as a regular starter for Real Madrid last season and now it could be a rib injury that keeps his sadness on the bench going. Poor Iker.
UPDATE: After the match, Marca reported that Casillas only suffered a bruised rib. "Someone wants to kill me today," Ramos tweeted while sitting next to Casillas on the team plane.
