Future News: Arsene Wenger says reaching quarterfinals of League Cup just as good as winning a trophy

Following Arsenal's embarrassing shootout loss to League Two side Bradford City in the quarterfinals of the Capital One Cup, Arsene Wenger has claimed that reaching that point in the tournament is as good as winning a trophy.

In October, Wenger famously said that for him there are five trophies -- winning the Premier League, winning the Champions League, qualifying for the Champions League, winning the FA Cup and winning the League Cup. Now it seems he has extended that list to six.

"It was a hard fought game," Wenger told reporters while curled up in the fetal position after the match. "Our players came back after conceding a goal early, but there is no shame in losing on penalties to a fourth division club in our fourth most important competition. Getting to the quarterfinals is just as good as winning a trophy. Remember when we came back from 4-0 down to beat Reading 7-5 in extra time? I enjoyed that."

Wenger put out a full-strength side against Bradford, but still went down 1-0 in the 16th. Arsenal then missed several good chances and finally came up with an equalizer from defender and captain Thomas Vermaelen in the 88the minute. After extra time passed without another goal, Bradford won the shootout 3-2, giving the overjoyed minnows nine consecutive shootout wins for a new English record.

"Arsenal cannot be expected to compete with mega-rich clubs like Bradford City," Wenger proclaimed after zipping his puffy coat up over his head. "Yes, we do have a much higher income than them, but that's not the point. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to text swear words to Robin van Persie."
