Florent Malouda spent the final season of his Chelsea career as a ghost. He requested a transfer last summer, but none of the offers he received could match his wage demands. So, at the age of 32, he stayed with Chelsea and was forced to spend an entire season training with the U-21 team, away from the first-team squad that voted him Players' Player of the Year in 2009/10. When his contract finally ran out, Malouda held no grudges and even penned a warm farewell message on his website before signing with Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor (for €2.5 million a season guaranteed).
In Trabzonspor's second league match of the season, Malouda let loose with a shot that he's been waiting to take for 12 months and scored from distance to give his side a 2-1 win against Caykur Rizespor. He then celebrated like a player who just wasted a season in the twilight of his career puttering around with a youth team.
