These five MLS goal of the week nominees are all worth your time

As the sweaty tedium of summer drags on and transfer rumors dominate the headlines, it's important to be sure you get your regular dose of actual competitive matches to serve as the nourishment necessary to get through this difficult period. Like a meal of cake and pizza with vitamins hidden inside, this batch of MLS goal of the week nominees is especially wonderful.

The first goal featured is New York Red Bulls' Eric Alexander slipping between Montreal defenders to score. Next is Houston Dynamo's train-hopping hobo impersonator Adam Moffat with a rocket of a volley from distance that put New England's goalkeeper on his back. Then comes Kansas City with series of one-touch passes that would make Xavi weep tears of joy to set up an easy goal on an empty net. Adding a bit of humor to the mix is Real Salt Lake's Javier Morales, who nutmegged a Dallas defender with his well-placed shot before celebrating with a troll-faced smile. And finally, Vancouver's Camilo Sanvezzo proves absolutely befuddling to Chicago's defenders.

It really is a delightful variety of goals. Watch it.
