At halftime of Southampton's match against Everton on Saturday, the club invited several fans onto the St. Mary's pitch for a football relay race as the players warmed up for the second half. This proved to be a dangerous mix.
The participants in the race had to run past the players and take a shot on goal. Realizing he was behind his competitor in the red shirt, the fan in blue launched a desperate shot from further out than he probably should have and instead of scoring, he landed a direct hit to the side of unsuspecting Everton substitute Aiden McGeady's head.
Everton lost 2-0 on two first-half own goals and McGeady entered the match in the 58th minute. The fan, meanwhile, will hopefully practice his shot accuracy before attempting to launch a ball over a professional footballer's head again.
This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
