On Wednesday afternoon, Fast Clube and Penarol drew 3-3 in the Campeonato Amazonense, the state championship of the Amazonas in Brazil. When Fast scored their second goal, Penarol players were extremely unhappy with the referee, who had let the hosts play on while one of their players was down injured.

The majority of the Penarol team crowded around the referee to complain, perhaps hoping the official would pull a Nicola Rizzoli and change his mind. However, things boiled over when goalkeeping coach Guanair Conceição ran over and punched the ref in the back of the head. It looked as if the beatdown would have continued if Penarol's number nine hadn't pulled the furious pitch invader away.

According to Globoesporte, league official Vladimir Bastos watched the incident unfold from the stands and later confirmed that the referee went to a police station after the game to file a report. Apparently, Conceição has behaved in this manner before: "He is an unbalanced person," said Bastos.

Penarol's president Patricia Serudo, meanwhile, claims the referee wasn't the only one who was assaulted. Serudo says that one of the police officers attempting to deal with the fallout of Conceição's antics sprayed pepper spray in the eyes of their goalkeeper Robson, who was unable to continue playing for 15 minutes.

This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
