With the score 0-0 near the end of an Argentine second-division match between Sportivo Belgrano and Gimnasia Jujuy, the desperation to score took hold. Sportivo's Gabriel Colombatti saw that the ball was loose inside the six-yard box and decided to slide in for what would be the winning toe-poke, but just as his foot reached its destination, so did goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos' face.
Hoyos knocked the ball away and Colombatti's boot knocked Hoyos' face away, resulting in a red card for the Sportivo man. Despite getting stabbed in the face by someone's weaponized foot, Hoyos played the final minutes of the match and retained his clean sheet.
This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
