Didier Drogba beats Arsenal (again) with lovely goal to win Emirates Cup

Dirty Tackle

Didier Drogba scored twice in the final 12 minutes to give Galatasaray a 2-1 win against Arsenal and the Emirates Cup title. Theo Walcott gave Arsenal a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute, but a vintage super soft penalty awarded to Drogba in the 78th minute allowed him to equalize. Then, in the 87th minute, Drogba displayed a wonderful bit of control off a Wesley Sneijder pass to score the winner (40 seconds into the video above) and deny Arsenal of even the most insignificant silverware in front of their home crowd (who booed them off at halftime the day before) at the Emirates Stadium.

The Emirates Cup is so utterly meaningless that they didn't even have it last year because of the London Olympics, but after winning three of the first four editions of the preseason tournament, Arsenal have now finished third in the last two (the New York Red Bulls won in 2011). Given this, Arsenal will skip the Emirates Cup next summer in order to spare themselves the minor annoyance. Instead, they will participate in the "Arsene Wenger Invites You All To Bite Him Cup." They will be the only participants. They will still probably lose in the final.
