Columbus Crew’s Dominic Odoru scores, celebrates by eating pizza

Perhaps inspired by baseball player Prince Fielder stealing a nacho from a fan during a Detroit Tigers game earlier in the week, Columbus Crew midfielder Dominic Oduro celebrated his 15th minute goal against the Chicago Fire by having a bite of pizza.

Oduro scored after a bit of sloppy play that involved a Chicago defender's attempt at a clearance deflecting back off his own teammate, but the celebration seemed far better choreographed. Once Oduro did his initial celebration, he ran over to a club employee waiting with a personal pizza box in hand. Oduro took the box from him, had a bite of the pizza and then gave the rest to a fan. Given the price of food in stadiums, this was valuable gift (even with the missing bite).

So why did Oduro do this? Well, he's a local spokesman for Papa John's Pizza and his Twitter bio reads, "I Love God, My Family, My Country, Papa John's Pizza and Fried Rice." Though players get booked for celebrating goals by taking off their shirts, apparently eating pre-arranged pizza isn't worthy of a yellow card because Oduro wasn't punished for doing this.

As amusing as it was, we can only hope this doesn't start a new trend of league approved product placement goal celebrations, which would surely suck any joy that remains in the modern game.

Columbus went on to beat Chicago 3-0.
