Chris Wondolowski’s name misspelled on his U.S. national team shirt, scores hat trick anyway

The USA opened their Gold Cup campaign against first-time qualifiers Belize in Portland and joining the team was an extra "w" in striker Chris Wondolowski's name on the back of his shirt. You would think that scoring his first international goal in his 12th appearance just four days earlier would be enough for the kitman to learn how to spell the 30-year-old's name, but apparently not.

Unfazed by the typo, Wondo(w)lowski, who matched the MLS record for most goals in a single season with 27 in 2012, found himself in the right place at the right time to put away the United States' first goal in the 12th minute. He then added another with a header in the 37th minute. And completed his hat trick with another header in the 40th minute. So now he has to legally change his name to Wondowlowski.

Meanwhile, Belize — wearing kits gifted to them by Nike — played it smart and didn't have names on their shirts at all.

UPDATE: The USA won 6-1 and Wondolowski had a shirt with the proper spelling in the second half. But since he didn't score in the second half, it should be back to Wondowlowski against Cuba on Saturday.
