Chivu triumphs with the help of helmet

After needing emergency surgery to remove pieces of skull from his brain after a clash of heads during a match against Chievo in January, Cristian Chivu probably considers himself lucky to even be walking around at this point. Instead of simply retaining those basic motor skills, Chivu has gone on to help Inter Milan complete a historic treble, with the Romanian defender owing a large part of the success to his hand-dandy helmet.

Not the most stylish piece of equipment (as Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech would also tell you), but Chivu proves that looking like an old-timey NFL player, in this case, can be quite helpful in achieving your wildest dreams.

From Football Italia:

“I didn't know if I would ever play again, let alone be here five months later with all these trophies. This is an absolute dream,” he said choking back tears.

Chivu had a place in the starting XI with the aid of a protective helmet and revealed what has changed from previous years.

“It wasn't easy at all! It is thanks to all the hard work we have done throughout the year, proving character in difficult moments and at the end we understood you only win these tournaments if you are a real team."

Yes, this day truly was a victory for helmet-wearers everywhere.
