Cassano refuses to be Sampdoria president's dinner date, feud begins

The dolphin tattoo is symbol of toughness.

Life has been too perfect for Antonio Cassano lately. He's been reborn on the pitch at Sampdoria, he's outlasted Marcello Lippi to regain his place in the Italian national team and he's also married a teenage water polo player. So it's about time he finds his career at risk of being flushed down the toilet again over something as silly as a declined dinner invitation.

On Tuesday, Sampdoria president Riccardo Garrone asked Cassano to go with him to a dinner being held in his honor that would also include the presentation of an award to Antonio. How nice.

Football Italia explains how this simple offer resulted in severely hurt feelings and a minor car accident:

Cassano apparently refused and Garrone was forced to go alone and apologise for the player's absence, something that caused him great embarrassment.

Garrone arrived at Samp's training ground in Bogliasco this morning to hear an apology from Cassano, but it wasn't convincing.

He left the changing room with a face like thunder while Cassano accidentally hit another car on his way out of the training ground.

Sampdoria has released a statement on their official website condemning Cassano for his "gravely offensive and disrespectful behavior" and he might now be excluded from this weekend's match against Cesena.

All this because he didn't want to go to a dinner.
