Shortly after UEFA announced their decision to give Wayne Rooney a three-match ban that will keep him out of the entire Euro 2012 group stage because of the violent conduct that got him sent off in England's final qualifier against Montenegro, England manager Fabio Capello announced the newest addition to his squad: "Shmayne Shmooney."

"Shmayne is player we just happened to discover after it became clear that Wayne Rooney, who is a completely different person, might miss more than one group stage match," Capello told the press. "It really is a miracle. Because Shmayne and Wayne definitely aren't the same person."

When asked how the public can be sure that a player who looks identical to Rooney is, in fact, a different person, Capello replied: "Stupid question. This one has a mustache. Next?"

Capello then introduced Shmooney -- a striker who is claimed to play for fictional Premier League club Harchester United from the defunct television series "Dream Team" --  to reporters, who posed

    • Before Brazil mounted their comeback against Mexico with some help from Ronaldinho's free kick prowess in the second half, they were 1-0 down and in danger of sinking even deeper when Dani Alves ran down Chicharito in the box to earn his second booking of the night. Alves delivered a shoulder check to the Man United striker that would've made Pepe proud and then nearly trampled him when he fell over.

Andres Guardado failed to convert the ensuing penalty, though, which kept Brazil just one goal down and set them up for an eventual 2-1 win.

    • We've taken a look at a number of wacky glitches in FIFA 12, but this easter egg in Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 is easily more wonderful than all of them. If you select goal celebration "91" in the edit player menu on PES 12, you can have any footballer do Michael Jackson's moonwalk, complete with a spin and toe stand at the end. All of which is even more impressive considering the fact that he's wearing football boots on grass.

Judging by the end of the video, it appears you can also do the Smooth Criminal forward lean with a couple of teammates, too. But are there crotch grabs? Would doing that get you booked?

Someone needs to upload video of Nani doing these moves immediately.

A couple weeks ago, we did a bit that imagined Carlos Tevez admitting that all the problems he's caused during his time in the Premier League was just one big joke at everyone else's expense. But now I'm not so sure that isn't what he's actually doing.

The same day Manchester City announced that they will bring a breach of contract case against Tevez in a disciplinary hearing and other reports suggested that he could get hit with a British football record fine of £1.2-1.5 million (in other words, a piddly six weeks' wages for Carlos), the former captain made it clear that he wants Roberto Mancini to apologize to him for all of this. Which, you might remember, began when Tevez didn't obey his manager's orders during a Champions League loss to Bayern Munich.

      From the Telegraph:

Tévez, who met with City officials in London on Wednesday following his return from Buenos Aires, is insistent that Mancini should apologise for claiming that he refused to play in the Allianz Arena.

    • Palmeiras have dropped to ninth in the Brasileiro table with just one win in their last nine matches. This has not pleased their fans. So, a group of them decided to attack a player in his first year with the club as a twisted way of expressing that displeasure. And it was caught on video.

      From the AP:

Brazilian police said fans of one of the team's organized fan groups punched and kicked reserve midfielder Joao Vitor after he was recognized arriving at the team's official store outside the Palestra Italia stadium on Tuesday.

Joao Vitor sustained minor injuries and had to visit hospital briefly.

Palmeiras lawyer Andre Sica told local television the fans confronted Joao Vitor over the team's recent results and the verbal altercation escalated into a physical confrontation. The 22-year-old player was with friends, who also got involved in the fight before police intervened with no arrests made.

That's Joao Vitor in the tattered yellow shirt in the video above, being defended by his

Last season, 1987 FA Cup winner Bert Tiddle wrote a column for us called "The uneventful life of a retired footballer." Now, Bert returns to DT after partial completion of a mandatory anger/ego management course to answer your questions and share his expert punditry in a more loving and calm manner. So, without further ado, let's get to the questions!

Bert, do you think Wayne Rooney deserves a three-match ban for his red card in the Montenegro match? -- Freddie in Bournemouth

Before I get to your question Freddie, I'd like to say hello to my angry-ego sponsor Ted. I know he's reading this, so I'd like to assure him that I'm not going to revert to my old ways and call Freddie a numpty who doesn't deserve indoor plumbing just because Bournemouth refused to sign me when I was still a schoolboy.

As for Wade Rooney, I can assure you that he does not deserve a three-match ban, Freddie. He's shown how much he regrets kicking that lad with his apology letter to UEFA and that's really proof of

    • Javier Hernandez failed to find the onion bag during regular time of Mexico's 2-1 defeat to Brazil on Tuesday night, but he did muster up some magic in pre-match warm-up.

Sure, it didn't happen during an actual game and the defending makes Arsenal's back line look tight (BURN!), but it's still mighty impressive. It's so impressive in fact, that the person who uploaded this clip thinks you need to see it SIX TIMES.

One question remains: Where could Chicharito have learned to do something like that?

    • Bahrain's Rashed Al Hooti was sent off just 39 seconds into his side's World Cup qualifier against Iran for a reckless challenge. Some are calling in the fastest red card ever in international play, but Al Hooti is probably more concerned with the fact that his side went on to lose 6-0 after he was sent off.

Maybe next time he'll ease into the game and wait a few minutes before lunging for an opponent's ankle.

Just when it seemed things were coming together for Argentina and the country's "collective psychosis" about Lionel Messi would be cast out by his goal in their 4-1 win over Chile on Friday, it all goes wrong yet again. Tuesday's 1-0 loss to Venezuela in their second World Cup qualifier marked the first time that has ever happened. Not just in World Cup qualifying or since the world reset in the year 2000 -- in all matches ever.

Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella offered his thoughts after the game (via FIFA.com):

"We have to analyse what we should improve. The qualifiers are a long tournament and we must improve some aspects."

Well, I've already invested the time in a deep, deep analysis and came up with a detailed list of what Argentina need to improve:

      -Everything.

      -Martin Demichelis' entire existence.

Once they clear up those two simple things, Messi will stop looking like he just watched someone stomp on his Lego Ninjago Mountain Shrine playset.

    • Just in case your appreciation of Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho's talents have been diminished by the long international break or a new-found passion for finger painting or your own forgetfulness, they both decided to remind you of what they can do with a free kick on the day.

Cristiano's effort (video above) was the more impressive of the two, but it came a bit too late in Portugal 2-1 Euro qualifier loss to Denmark, sending them down the dangerous playoff route to the finals. It was, however, a beautiful way to score his 30th international goal, making him Portugal's fourth highest scorer of all time.

Ronaldinho's came from a bit closer to the goal and in a friendly. It did, however, spark Brazil's second-half comeback to beat Mexico 2-1 while playing with 10 men. Have a look...

      {ysp:more}

And to complete the trifecta of the Ronaldos, Retired Ronaldo probably scored on a free kick while playing against his son in FIFA 12 without even touching the controller.
