Antonio Conte replies to Rafa Benitez's Benfica advice offer with a put-down

Juventus will face Benfica in the Europa League semifinals with the chance to play the final in their home stadium as the prize dangling in front of them. So Napoli manager Rafa Benitez, who beat Benfica in the Europa League final with Chelsea last season, made the friendly/pompous offer of free advice to Juve manager Antonio Conte. The man who is on course to lead Juventus to a third straight Serie A title was not appreciative.

From Football Italia:

This week Benitez publicly offered to advise Conte on how to beat Benfica, as his Chelsea saw them off in the Europa League Final last season. However, the response was less than encouraging.

“As Napoli went out against Porto [in the round of 16], I’d prefer to avoid asking his advice on Portuguese sides! Maybe I have a little more faith in my own collaborators.”

To paraphrase Billy Madison, a simple "no" would have done just fine. Meanwhile, somewhere in London, fellow Rafa Benitez put-down artist Jose Mourinho is giggling uncontrollably.
