American astronauts Reid Wiseman and Steve Swanson and German astronaut Alexander Gerst got into World Cup fever earlier this month in space by playing some zero-gravity soccer.
They next decided to place a wager on last Thursday's U.S.-Germany match. If the U.S. won, Wiseman and Swanson would paint an American flag on Gerst’s bald head. If the German's prevailed, Gerst would get to shave Wiseman and Swanson’s heads, adding to the bald population on board the international space station.
Germany would end up winning the final Group G match for each side 1-0, and Wiseman and Swanson had to pay up.
Wiseman did see a positive in losing the bet:
It was nice to wake up this morning and not worry about my hair. There isn’t any. @astro_alex #worldcupfun
