Bernie Kosar stands his ground, doesn’t apologize for broadcasting comments

Bernie Kosar had the chance to apologize for his comments during the Cleveland Browns-St. Louis Rams game last week, not that he really needed to be sorry.

Kosar spoke his mind last week, which is kind of his job as a color commentator. He was a bit harsh, especially towards Rams quarterback Kellen Clemens, and was ripped by Rams coach Jeff Fisher and reprimanded by Browns CEO Joe Banner. But in an era of announcing that focuses more on being friendly to players and coaches than offering honest analysis (and of unnecessary team CEO apologies for critical comments by a color commentator), Kosar's commentary was not the worst thing.

And, the way he passed on his chance to apologize indicates he feels the same way.

Here's what Kosar said when he addressed the issue during the Browns-Lions broadcast, from the Akron Beacon Journal:

“I love the game so much and there’s no way I’d want to disrespect or hurt or make fun of any players or coaches,” Kosar said. “That being said, the way I look at the game and the way I like to analyze it from a football perspective, it is what it is. Again, I don’t want to disrespect or hurt any of the players or coaches in the league. But I do like the way I look at the game and I have strong feelings about how the game is played.”

It was an explanation, but not an apology. And that's fine. He really didn't have anything to apologize for in the first place.
