The Detroit Tigers have lost Victor Martinez for the season and the Detroit Free Press reports that the team would like Johnny Damon to fill the hole left in the batting order.
The 38-year-old Damon has been in the majors for 17 seasons, batting .286 with 231 homers. He played for the Tigers back in 2010, batting .271 with eight homers and 36 doubles. Last season, with the Tampa Bay Rays, he hit .261 with 16 homers and 29 doubles.
The Tigers are also interested in pitcher Roy Oswalt, the paper notes. Oswalt went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA for the Philadelphia Phillies last year. The 34-year-old, who also has interest from the Boston Red Sox, had a few stints on the disabled list with a hurting back last season.
