Running back Marshawn Lynch has only spent one full season with the Seattle Seahawks after being traded early in the 2010-11 season from the Buffalo Bills.
Seattle has seen enough of the 25-year-old Oakland native that the team knows it would like to keep him around. ProFootballTalk reports that a rumor is circulating that the two sides are close to agreeing on a long-term contract. However, a source to the site says the rumor is not true and "though the two sides are talking, the breakthrough still hasn't come."
If a deal can't get done by March 5, the Seahawks are expected to use the franchise tag on Lynch, the site notes.
Lynch, who has been to the Pro Bowl twice in his five seasons of work, rushed for a career-high 1,204 yards and 12 touchdowns this past season. He scored another as a receiver and gained 212 yards in the air as well.
