Rangers trading Koji Uehara to Athletics?

US PresswireThe Oakland Athletics are likely busy celebrating their signing of Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes, but the team might soon be adding another player to the roster.

ESPN reports that the A's are in conversations with the Texas Rangers about trading for reliever Koji Uehara. Oakland is also talking to free-agent reliever Mike Gonzalez, the site notes.

Uehara went 2-3 with a 2.38 ERA and 85 strikeouts over 65 innings pitched for the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers. However, he had a rough postseason, letting in five runs in 1.1 innings pitched, earning him a 33.75 ERA and forcing the Rangers to not place him on the World Series roster.

The A;s should trade Fuentes to the Rangers for Uehara. Fuentes scares me everytime he goes to the mound in late innings, though he somehow gets the job done. Uehara just choked during the Series, but pitched well during the season. He's worth giving another chance.

Why was the "davifried" character dropped? Did it having nothing left to contribute? I guess it did "jump the shark" a little while back. I am sure, given time, Hoots can work his way into Daviboys' routines. Too bad he had that little mistake with the location thing (NY). Poor coverup, but not much could be done. Kind of misplayed the Idaho/KC thing too.....should have followed up with an "Old Friend" story instead.

Maybe a story about a Cuban refugee wife would spice things up. Alejandra?

Back to baseball. It's nice to see the A's opening the purse strings. They have a crappy ballpark that the indifferent fan base can ignore in droves.

As an O's fan, I'd really like to see Koji back in Baltimore. I've been seeing so many articles stating that the O's "have interest" in him and that he wants to come back, but unfortunately it seems that the Rangers are asking for more than Duquette wants to give. He is a solid reliever that we really could use. I think its safe to disregard the postseason numbers and give him a shot. Also, I'm hoping they stay away from Gonzalez, we really don't need to deal with that again
