Now the 27-year-old who will be eligible for arbitration at season's end is saying that he is open to signing a multiyear extension with the team, MLB.com reports. "Obviously I would entertain hearing it," he said, according to the site. "I think anybody would."

MLB.com reports that Gutierrez injured his right pectoral muscle on Tuesday and was kept out of the team's intrasquad game.
"We don't really know anything yet," manager Eric Wedge told MLB.com Tuesday. "We're waiting on the MRI results and will figure out the game plan after we get that. He felt something in the pec region when we were taking infield today, so we'll wait and see what the results show and go from there."
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that "a bulked-up Gutierrez showed up to spring training healthy and ready to go, after a year and a half of health troubles."
Gutierrez, who won a Gold Glove in 2010, had his best year offensively in 2009 when he hit .283 with 18 home runs and 70 RBIs. Last season, he hit .224 with one homer and 13 doubles.

It appears that the team will be heading into the season with Uehara still on the roster (and that isn't such a bad thing). "There are always some deals in the spring, moves here or there," GM Jon Daniels said Tuesday, according to MLB.com. "But we're ready to go with this group of guys. I have no moves planned or anything like that."
Uehara, who struck out 65 in 85 innings last year, has another year left on his deal and will be paid $4 million for the season.Read More »

"Weird and good at the same time," Drew said about how he felt afterward, MLB.com reports. "Overall, I was pretty pleased with the way it went. Today was a good day; it really was."
It isn't clear when Drew will take grounders again for the National League West champs. "We'll see how tomorrow goes," Drew said Monday, according to the site. "We have to see when I come in. That's going to be the key, how much can I do before I can't do anything and have to take two days off."
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said that Drew moved around better than he thought he would, but the team plans to take his recovery slowly. "He's still got a long way to go for sure," Gibson said, the site notes.Read More »
- closing in on adding Raul Ibanez as the left-handed hitting option for their designated hitter role," according to MLB.com.
"The preference would be to find someone from the left side that can do some damage against right-handed pitching, but ... in the event we have injuries that hit in-season, that my manager could put out for defense," Yankees GM Briand Cashman said on Sunday, the site reports.
The Yankees will also likely re-sign 34-year-old Eric Chavez to serve as a backup corner infielder.
Chavez batted .263 with two homers and 26 RBIs in 58 games for New York last year. The 39-year-old Ibanez was the starting left fielder for the Philadelphia Phillies last year, batting .245 with 20 homers and 84 RBIs in 144 total games.
