US PresswireSeattle Mariners outfielder Franklin Gutierrez had a rough season last year, appearing in only 92 games due mostly to stomach issues. And things haven't started well at spring training for the 29-year-old.
MLB.com reports that Gutierrez injured his right pectoral muscle on Tuesday and was kept out of the team's intrasquad game.
"We don't really know anything yet," manager Eric Wedge told MLB.com Tuesday. "We're waiting on the MRI results and will figure out the game plan after we get that. He felt something in the pec region when we were taking infield today, so we'll wait and see what the results show and go from there."
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that "a bulked-up Gutierrez showed up to spring training healthy and ready to go, after a year and a half of health troubles."
Gutierrez, who won a Gold Glove in 2010, had his best year offensively in 2009 when he hit .283 with 18 home runs and 70 RBIs. Last season, he hit .224 with one homer and 13 doubles.
