Joel Pineiro has pitched for the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Angels. Now the word is that he'll be joining the Philadelphia Phillies to serve as insurance to a rotation that currently consists of Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Vance Worley and Joe Blanton.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Phils have agreed to a minor-league contract with Pineiro and he will be invited to the club's spring training.
The 33-year-old went 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA last season in 27 games for the Angels. He started 24 of those games. The Phils' Blanton only started eight games and went 1-2 with a 5.01 ERA.
Pineiro's career record is 104-93, with a 4.42 ERA.
