The Miami Dolphins are on the verge of making a final decision on who will be the head coach next season. The Miami Herald has it that team owner Stephen Ross and GM Jeff Ireland will choose between Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles is a backup possibility, the paper notes.
Philbin got a second interview with the Fins on Wednesday and then sat in the interview chair of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday, the Herald reports, while McCoy spoke with the Dolphins Thursday and felt so good about his chances that he removed his name from the list of folks interviewing for the head coaching job with the Oakland Raiders.
McCoy "reportedly has the support of Ireland, whose opinions carry significant weight with Ross," the Herald reports. However, the word is that it is a very close decision between McCoy and Philbin.
