    • Chris Paul now aiming to join the Clippers?

US PresswireSince the New Orleans Hornets can't find a way to get Chris Paul onto the roster of the Los Angeles Lakers or the New York Knicks, the 26-year-old four-time All-Star's "preference is to be traded … to the Los Angeles Clippers to play alongside Blake Griffin," ESPN reports.

It is now "unlikely (for Paul) to sign an extension with any team that trades for him because the rules in place in the NBA's new labor agreement" make it more lucrative for a player to play out the season and sign in free agency than sign an extension, the site notes. While Paul can opt out of his contract at season's end, the Clippers would like him "to pick up the 2012-13 option in his contract at the time of the trade" in order for them to hand over one of its two best trading chips: Eric Gordon or the unprotected No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft that it received from the Minnesota Timberwolves, ESPN reports.

A source tells ESPN that the Hornets "asked the Clippers for Gordon, Chris Kaman, Eric Bledsoe, Al-Farouq

    • Bruins’ Zdeno Chara out for a week?

US PresswireBoston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara didn't miss one regular-season game due to injury last year as the team made its way to become Stanley Cup champions. He won't be able to say that when this season ends.

Chara suffered a leg injury Saturday night and "likely will not be available for games" against Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators, and Philadelphia Flyers, a source tells the Boston Globe. If everything goes well in recovery, the source tells the Globe that Chara will be back Dec. 19 against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Globe notes that after Chara suffered the injury, he "skated off the ice" and "then walked to the dressing room without assistance." He also was "walking without noticeable discomfort" after the game. The paper theorizes that the injury is a knee sprain.

The 34-year-old Chara, who won the Norris Trophy in 2009, has six goals and 13 assists in the team's 28 games. He's also averaging 24:48 of ice time per game so his presence will definitely be missed by the Bruins.

    • Head injury takes out Dolphins QB Matt Moore

US PresswireThe Miami Dolphins take on the Buffalo Bills next Sunday and they may have to promote quarterback Pat Devlin from the practice squad before then in order to have a backup quarterback on the premises.

That's because starting quarterback Matt Moore got taken down in the third quarter of the team's 26-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and suffered a head injury, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

"The Dolphins typically shy away from acknowledging that players suffer concussions to avoid" the NFL-mandated baseline tests on its players, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

The paper points out that Moore and J.P. Losman "are the only quarterbacks on the Dolphins' 53-man roster" at this point, which means if Moore isn't ready for next week, Devlin may on the roster.

Moore has thrown for 1,864 yards, six interceptions, and 10 touchdowns this season for the 4-9 Dolphins. Losman made his first appearance of the season Sunday and threw 6-for-10 for 60 yards.

    • Packers WR Greg Jennings tears MCL?

US PresswireGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings has 949 yards receiving and nine touchdown catches this season. Twenty of those yards came before he was carted to the locker room with a knee injury partway through the team's 46-16 drubbing of the Detroit Lions.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that "the most likely scenario seems to be a torn medial collateral ligament, which does not require surgery and generally requires two to six weeks of recovery." Jennings will get an MRI Monday.

"It didn't look very good, so we'll see what the MRI says tomorrow and hopefully, you know, we got a bye wrapped up, so he really has close to five weeks before the next game, or our playoff game," quarterback Aaron Rodgers said, according to the paper. "So hopefully we can get him ready for that."

The undefeated team is starting to have injuries pile up. It also lost running back Brandon Saine and defensive end Ryan Pickett to concussions during the Lions game.l

    • Chauncey Billups joining Lakers or Heat?

US PresswireAt 6 p.m. EST. veteran point guard Chauncey Billups will become a free agent if no team tries to pick him up through waivers. According to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc J. Spears, Billups "warned teams that they would regret it if they claimed him off waivers" this weekend.

Sent packing by the New York Knicks in order to make room for Tyson Chandler on the payroll, Billups is now looking to join a contending team and sources tell Yahoo! Sports "to keep an eye on the Los Angeles Lakers or Miami Heat as possible destinations."

The 35-year-old six-time All-Star averaged 16.8 points, 5.4 assists, and 2.6 points per game last season for his hometown Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks. According to Wojnarowski and Spears, Billups is in the Mile High City working out until his next destination becomes known.

    • Rockies offering three years to Michael Cuddyer?

US PresswireFree-agent outfielder Michael Cuddyer has a three-year, $25 million offer from his former employer, the Minnesota Twins, but an offer from the Colorado Rockies has him considering a move, according to the Denver Post. Cuddyer hit 20 home runs last season for the Twins and went to the All-Star game.

The Rockies are willing to offer a three-year deal to Cuddyer, the paper reports, making them a "serious suitor."

The Post notes that the team's trade of closer Huston Street on Wednesday has freed up $7 million of salary for next season, leaving the Rockies "in position to be more aggressive with free-agent targets, namely Cuddyer and pitcher Hiroki Kuroda."

The Post also reports that "Rockies players are also believed to be trying to sell Cuddyer on Colorado."

    • Knicks offered Amar’e Stoudemire to Hornets?

US PresswireThe New York Knicks came away from the 2010 free-agent signing period without the prize they had wanted to get — LeBron James — but with someone who was a major reason the team started to change its loser image: Amar'e Stoudemire.

The New York Post reports that the team just tried to deal him away in an attempt to snag New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul, but the Hornets rejected it straightaway.

A move to New Orleans would have meant a basketball culture shock for Stoudemire, who will soon likely welcome Tyson Chandler to the Knicks.

Stoudemire has four years and $84 million left on his contract.

Another Paul deal that didn't go through, the Post reports, is a deal with the Warriors, who wouldn't "give up Stephen Curry without Paul promising to re-sign long term."

    • Vikings without Adrian Peterson and Christian Ponder?

      US Presswire

The Minnesota Vikings take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday and it is looking like it might do so without the services of running back Adrian Peterson (again) and quarterback Christian Ponder, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Peterson took part in practice Thursday after missing the last two games with a high ankle sprain, the paper notes. Ponder did not take part as he is still recovering from a hip pointer he suffered in last Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos.

Peterson is "headed in the right direction," coach Leslie Frazier said, according to the Star Tribune. "Far more improved than he was a week ago. So we're encouraged by his work."

Ponder, though, is a much bigger question mark. "If he's not able to do anything [Friday], it'd be hard pressed for us to put him in the game," Frazier said, according to the Star Tribune. "We'd need to see him take some snaps and move around a little bit to make a decision about him playing."

Otherwise, here comes Joe Webb, Vikings fans.

    • Dwight Howard prefers playing for the Nets?

US PresswireOrlando Magic center Dwight Howard is looking to leave town. He can opt to be a free agent next summer, but he would like to get out of Orlando before then.

ESPN reports that reps for Howard have told the New Jersey Nets that Howard would like to join them and that Howard will ask the Magic to trade him.

Howard has been in contact with Magic officials recently, the Orlando Sentinel reports, but it is unclear what they have specifically discussed.

According to ESPN, Howard spoke with Nets point guard Deron Williams "about teaming up" during the lockout.

The 6-11, 26-year-old, a five-time All-Star and three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 22.9 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game last season.

    • Broncos RB Willis McGahee misses practice again

      US Presswire

Denver Broncos running back Willis McGahee has got a hurting knee that has forced him to miss practice two days in a row.

However, the 30-year-old is saying that the injury isn't so bad that it will keep him out of Sunday's game against the Chciago Bears, according to the Denver Post. "It's good, I'm good," McGahee said, the Post reports. "Everything is good."

McGahee is the Broncos' top rusher with 886 yards and four touchdowns this season

"When we feel good [it's in McGahee's] best interest to practice, he will," said coach John Fox, according to the Post. "The key is getting him ready for Sunday. He's day to day at this point."
