    • Torn ligament sidelining Bucks’ Drew Gooden

US PresswireMilwaukee Bucks center Drew Gooden has missed four straight games with a hurting wrist. Word came Wednesday from the 6-10 Oakland native that he's actually got a partially torn ligament in the wrist but doesn't need to have surgery on it right now, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The wrist problems have been with him all season, Gooden said, but got much worse in the team's Feb. 15 loss to the New Orleans Hornets, the paper reports.

"I keep getting it banged up, where I'm landing on it or falling on the floor," Gooden said, according to the Journal Sentinel. "Or getting it jammed while guarding guys in the post, just trying to make plays defensively. It got to the point where it was just tough warming up before the game. It was painful to shoot. It got to the point where if I was going to shoot, it was only going to be in the game."

Gooden is hopeful that the All-Star break will prove restorative. "I look forward to be back in uniform after the break and take it from

    • Warriors’ Stephen Curry out with plantar fasciitis?

US PresswireWith Monta Ellis scoring 26 points, the Golden State Warriors took down the Phoenix Suns 106-104 Wednesday night and they mostly did it without the help of Stephen Curry for the whole second half.

In the first quarter, Curry strained a tendon in his right foot, the San Francisco Chronicle reports, and then returned in the second quarter after X-rays were negative.

When he went back into the game, there were only 18 seconds left in the half  and after trying to get open off the ball, was noticeably limping and shaking his head, CSN Bay Area reports. "He looked very frustrated as he walked off the floor for halftime."

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that "team doctors weren't sure if he had plantar fasciitis."

    • Ivan Rodriguez spurned Diamondbacks’ interest

US PresswireIvan Rodriguez played in only 44 games for the Washington Nationals last year, the fewest number of games he's played in a season since he entered the league way back in 1991.

CBSSports.com has it that the 40-year-old free agent "has fielded a few inquiries," including from the Arizona Diamondbacks, but he seeks  a job with a chance for real playing time.

In his 21 seasons, Pudge has batted .296 with 311 homers, 572 doubles and 1,332 RBIs. Last year, the 14-time All-Star batted .218 with two homers and 19 RBIs.

In his career, he's played for six teams, won seven Silver Slugger awards and 13 Gold Gloves, and helped the Florida Marlins win a World Series in 2003.

    • Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman wants deal by Saturday

US PresswireWashington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, the team's first draft pick in its history, will be a free agent at season's end unless his agent, Brodie Van Wagenen of CAA Sports, can work out a deal soon.

The Washington Post reports that Zimmerman doesn't want to discuss a new contract after Saturday and Van Wagenen showed up at the Nats camp Wednesday to talk to the CAA clients on the payroll and possibly discuss the Zimmerman deal with Nationals execs.

The sides have had no recent talks or developments, the Post reports.

Last year, Zimmerman hit .289 with 12 homers and 21 doubles in 101 games.

    • Phillies’ Ryan Howard not rushing himself back

US PresswireTwo seasons ago, the Philadelphia Phillies ended their season with slugger Ryan Howard watching a called third strike from San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson sail by him for the final out in the National League Championship Series. He was the last out of last season, as well. This time, though, he managed to hit the ball, but then crumpled to the ground with a torn Achilles' tendon.

Now the Phils are facing the start of the season without their slugger, who will be out till sometime in May. However, he provided some hope that his return would be sooner rather than later Wednesday when he stepped into the batter's box and took some swings, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

While Howard hit some homers Wednesday and is able to jog and take ground balls, he's not rushing himself back to the lineup and will certainly not be ready for opening day. "Ask me in May," Howard said about when he'll return, according to the paper. "I'm not going to put a time limit on it. I'm going to

    • Falcons letting DE John Abraham go?

US PresswireDefensive end John Abraham has been with the Atlanta Falcons since 2006, but it appears that his time with the team may be over. The word is that Abraham will be allowed to test free agency, according to the ESPN.

The 33-year-old led Atlanta with 9.5 sacks last year and has 58.5 of them since coming to Atlanta from the New York Jets. The site notes that the four-time Pro Bowler played only on a part-time basis last season while dealing with lingering injuries.

Plus, the site notes, the Falcons have Ray Edwards and Lawrence Sidbury on the roster and will likely try to re-sign Kroy Biermann. Even with those three, the site notes, the Falcons probably will add a pass rusher in the draft or free agency.

    • Roy Oswalt announcement coming Thursday?

US PresswireIt is said that free-agent pitcher Roy Oswalt wanted to join the lineup of one of the two teams that met in the World Series last season — the Texas Rangers or St. Louis Cardinals — this offseason, but both teams already had stocked pitching rotations and other needs to throw their money at.

It's also been long rumored that the Boston Red Sox would love to have Oswalt and have offered a deal that he turned down because it wasn't close enough to his Mississippi home. Other offseason rumors had him turning down interest from the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians.

Now all may be answered. ESPN reports that Oswalt's agent, Bob Garber,  is saying that his client will announce Thursday just what his decision is, even though it's not clear exactly what the 34-year-old three-time All-Star is deciding on.

Oswalt went 9-10 with a 3.9 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 139 innings pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies last year. He also spent time on the disabled list twice with a hurting back. One of

    • Sharks aiming to add Rick Nash

US PresswireThe Columbus Blue Jackets are one of the few teams in the NHL that are absolutely out of the playoff hunt. With the worst record in the league, the team sits nine points behind the next lowest team in the Eastern Conference, the Edmonton Oilers. So it seems clear that Columbus will make some deals before the trading deadline on Monday. And the continuing word is that one of those casualties is team captain Rick Nash.

According to TSN, the San Jose Sharks "are emerging as a strong contender" for Nash. The site's sources say that the team "initially targeted Logan Couture," but the Blue Jackets said they wouldn't trade him.

TSN notes that "Nash and Sharks veteran Joe Thornton are good friends and have shown an impressive chemistry when playing together internationally that isn't being overlooked."

Nash has scored 20 goals and notched 22 assists this season.

    • Przybilla deciding on team Wednesday

US PresswireFree-agent center Joel Przybilla and his 7-1 frame have spent 11 seasons in the NBA, playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers, Atlanta Hawks and Charlotte Bobcats.

Now he's a wanted man and his decision is expected to come Wednesday on whether he wants to join the Portland Trail Blazers, where he spent most of seven seasons; the Miami Heat; the Chicago Bulls; or the Milwaukee Bucks, where the Minnesota native spent the first three full seasons of his career, according to the Oregonian.

There is also a chance, the paper notes, that Przybilla could remain "idle at his home in Milwaukee, where he is an All-Star father to his two sons."

Przybilla's agent, Bill Duffy, suggested that the Blazers have a special spot in his client's heart: "I think Portland is always the sentimental favorite for obvious reasons," Duffy said, according to the paper. "Joel has a home here and he had the best years of his career here. And at this particular time, it looks like he is needed, too."

    • Hornets’ Eric Gordon open to return to Indiana

US PresswireNew Orleans Hornets shooting guard Eric Gordon grew up in Indianapolis and was named "Mr. Basketball" of Indiana in his senior year of high school. Then he went to Indiana for one season and led the Big 10 in scoring. So he headed off to the NBA and was drafted seventh overall in 2008 by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Last month the news slipped out that Gordon and the NBA-owned Hornets weren't able to work out a long-term extension. He'll be a restricted free agent this summer and some Indiana Pacers fans are hoping that he'll return to the Hoosier state. And Gordon isn't denying that possibility.

"It's going to be interesting," Gordon said Tuesday of his coming free agency, according to the Indianapolis Star. "It's all about whatever happens, happens. Coming back [to Indiana] would be a lot of pressure, but I think it would be good for the fans."

The 23-year-old Gordon is averaging 21 points, five rebounds, and two assists per game.
