    • Twins signing Jason Marquis?

      US Presswire

The Arizona Diamondbacks traded for starting pitcher Jason Marquis this summer in the hopes that he could help clinch a division title for the team. While the D-Backs did just that, Marquis wasn't much help. He only appeared in three games for Arizona before going down with a fractured right tibia.

Now the veteran appears to be headed to his seventh team. Fox Sports reports that Marquis and the Minnesota Twins are close to a deal. This will mark the first time that the 33-year-old Marquis will play in the American League.

Marquis has played for the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals. Marquis, who was an All-Star in 2009, has gone 104-98 with a 4.55 ERA since his debut with Atlanta in 2000. In 2005, he won a Silver Slugger award with a .310 batting average, one homer and one triple. Last season, he went 8-6 with a 4.43 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 132 innings pitched.

    • Mark DeRosa signing with Nationals?

      US Presswire

The Washington Nationals are about to add some depth with the signing of super-utility player Mark DeRosa, a source tells Fox Sports. The 36-year-old will sign a one-year deal and join recent addition Mike Cameron on the bench, the site reports.

DeRosa has been with the San Francisco Giants for the last two seasons, but has played sparingly due to two surgeries on his left wrist. He only appeared in 73 games for the Giants. In fact, he hasn't appeared in more than 71 games in a season since 2008.

In the 47 games he played in last year, though, he hit .279 with 12 RBIs and one stolen base. After coming off the disabled list on Aug. 5, DeRosa hit .367 in 57 plate appearances.

"It's not like I'm looking for an everyday job, even though [playing] will be my goal going to the yard every day," DeRosa said earlier this offseason, according to Fox. "I just think I can be a difference-maker on a team, not only on the field, but in the clubhouse. I've been on a lot of winning clubs in my 13

    • Chargers WR Vincent Jackson sits with groin injury

US PresswireSan Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson sat out Wednesday's practice due to a mild groin injury that he picked up during Sunday's 34-14 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Jackson had three receptions for 84 yards in the game. The team did not disclose the injury at that point, CBSSports.com notes.

"I am expecting he will play," head coach Norv Turner said of Jackson, CBS reports. "We will see how it goes over the next couple of days."

Jackson, who was selected by the Chargers in the second round of the 2005 draft out of Northern Colorado and made the Pro Bowl in 2009, has pulled in 56 balls for 1,036 yards receiving and eight touchdowns this season. In his seven seasons in the NFL, he has only fumbled the ball once.

    • Blazers’ Marcus Camby sits with tweaked knee

US PresswireThe Portland Trail Blazers had to take to the court Wednesday night for their final preseason tune-up without the services of 6-11 center Marcus Camby after "tweaking his left knee during warm-ups," according to the Associated Press. Portland won the game in its waning seconds when Michael Beasley sunk two free throws to make the score 85-84.

Camby will have an MRI done Thursday, the AP reports. That's the same knee, by the way, that Camby had surgery on back in January to patch up a partial tear of the meniscus.

"I don't want to make a big deal out of it," Camby said,  according to the Oregonian. "We'll know more [Thursday], but I don't think it's anything. If it was Monday [during the season opener], I would be out there."

The 37-year-old, two-time All-Star, who was drafted by the Toronto Raptors second overall way back in 1996 (behind Allen Iverson), averaged 4.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game last season.

      US Presswire

Minnesota Wild center Mikko Koivu spent his summer working for the Finnish Army back in his homeland. Now he's back at work for the Minnesota Wild, but unfortunately, due to a leg injury he suffered on Dec. 14, he's been unable to play.

The 28-year-old Koivu, who joined the Wild in 2005, has scored eight goals and notched 20 assists this season. Last year, he finished out the year with 17 goals and 45 assists.

    • Carlos Beltran choosing new team soon

US PresswireSince making his major-league debut in September of 1998 for the Kansas City Royals, Carlos Beltran has been employed by four different teams. It appears that he's going to add a fifth to the list soon.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Beltran is expected to make his decision this week. Five teams are said to be after him, the paper reports, including the St. Louis Cardinals. Once the Cards lost the Albert Pujols sweepstakes to the Los Angeles Angels, the team began to put more effort toward finding an outfielder with some offensive oomph, the Post-Dispatch notes.

Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown has it that other teams that are trying to sign the 34-year-old switch-hitting outfielder include the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays. Meanwhile, ESPN reports that the Cleveland Indians have also joined the hunt.

Beltran, who has two- and three-year offers on the table, according to the Post-Dispatch, hit .300 with 22 homers and 84 RBIs in 142 games for the New York

    • Red Sox wooing Andruw Jones from Yankees?

US PresswireThe New York Yankees "have not made much progress" in its attempts to re-sign outfielder Andruw Jones this offseason, the New York Daily News reports, and even though both sides have said they'd like to pair up again, there is now word that he may be heading elsewhere.

Jones has attracted the interst of several other teams, a source tells the Daily News, and one of them is "believed to be" the archrival Boston Red Sox.

Jones hit .247 with 13 home runs and 33 RBIs in 222 at-bats with the Yanks last season, his first year in the Bronx.

The News notes that the Sox could platoon Jones with Josh Reddick or Ryan Kalish in right field and only have Jones face lefty starters.

Another team that had been interested in Jones, according to the Daily News, is the Colorado Rockies, but that is likely over since the Rocks signed Michael Cuddyer.

    • Nets bringing back Kris Humphries

US PresswireIt looks like New Jersey Nets center Brook Lopez will get his wish to play beside power forward Kris Humphries again. Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Humphries, who is getting plenty of extra press these days due to his marital breakup with reality TV star Kim Kardashian, has re-signed with the Nets.

The deal is expected to be for one year and around $8 million, Wojnarowski reports. Humphries should even be suited up for the Nets in the team's preseason game against the New York Knicks Wednesday night.

"Humphries envisioned getting $10 million annually on a long-term contract, but that market clearly wasn't available," Wojnarowski notes. "The Nets have been careful about offering multiyear deals this offseason, choosing to keep salary cap space available for the pursuit of possible free agent Dwight Howard next summer."

The 26-year-old Minnesota native averaged 10 points and 10.4 rebounds per game last year.

    • Bears starting QB Josh McCown against Packers?

US PresswireThe Chicago Bears are going up against the Green Bay Packers this weekend and the word is that the team will be handing the ball to recently acquired quarterback Josh McCown to see if he can halt the team's four-game losing streak.

Rookie Caleb Hainie has been trying to hold down the fort since Jay Cutler fractured his thumb, but he has thrown nine interceptions and three touchdowns in the four games since then.

Sources tell the site that McCown will get the start if he does well in practice this week. McCown, though, didn't indicate to reporters that he had heard any such thing.

"We're trying to win a football game, so the best guys who give us an opportunity to do that will be on the field," Bears coach Lovie Smith said, according to the site. "No more than that."

Since the 2008 season,  McCown has thrown eight passes, two of them for completions and one for an interception.

    • Cubs and Reds swapping pitchers

US PresswireReliever Sean Marshall has been in the big leagues for six seasons and they've all been with the Chicago Cubs. It's looking right now like he's going to get a taste of a new hometown soon.

ESPN Chicago reports that the Virginia native is close to being shipped to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for soon-to-be 25-year-old lefty pitcher Travis Wood.

Wood went 6-6 with an ERA of 4.84 in 18 starts last season with the Reds, his second in the bigs. Last year, ESPN notes, he won his first game in the majors against the Cubs.

The 29-year-old Marshall is "one of the best left-handed relievers in baseball," ESPN reports. He had 34 holds, good for a second-place tie for best in the majors by a lefty. In 2010, he had 22 holds.
