Earlier this week, the governors of New York and California made the lamest bet on the outcome of the Stanley Cup Final between the Rangers and the Kings. Thankfully, the mayors of the respective cities involved have stepped up with a quality wager that doesn’t involve a hockey puck or marinade sauce.

New York mayor Bill De Blasio and Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti have decided to put their pride and singing skills on the line as the Kings and Rangers battle for the Cup.

Should the Rangers win, Garcetti will perform Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York," while De Blasio will sing Randy Newman's "I Love LA" if the Kings are victorious. The hook? The loser will have to go on national television and show off their pipes on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

From the New York City mayor’s office:

“Start spreading the news, it’s been over 20 years since the Stanley Cup has found its home in New York City, and we look forward to it making its way here,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “Let’s go Rangers.”

“Looks like another perfect day—for the Kings to take home the Stanley Cup,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said. “From the west side to the east side, the Kings will reign. Go Kings Go!”

Just as important as the loser singing a song about the winning city on national television, the audience of that episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! will receive hot dogs from Pink’s (LA) or Gray’s Papaya (NYC) depending on who loses. Bad singing, hot dogs... all that's missing is the cheap beer and you've got a Puck Daddy barbecue.

Every wager needs some sort of element of embarrassment to it and this one is really a win for whoever loses. with that city's mayor going on national television to sing and producing a clip that will go viral the next day.
