Utah prep lacrosse player converts remarkable 75-yard goal at the buzzer

Jacob Mika has just one point this lacrosse season, but it may just be the goal of the year when all is said and done. And it didn't come from hotbeds like Batlimore or Long Island, but rather Sandy, Utah.

The Waterford junior defenseman corraled a rebound and unleashed a 75-yard prayer that somehow found its way past the Riverton goalie before the end of the first quarter, as evident in the YouTube video provided by Prodigy Productions. The goal gave Waterford a 7-0 lead en route to a 17-3 blowout and marked the first tally of Mika's three-year career.

“I’ve been playing and coaching lacrosse for 35-plus years and I’ve never seen anything like it,” Waterford coach Dave Brattin told Utah Lacrosse News. Few have, although Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga defenseman Matt Borda connected from 80 yards in the final seconds of a 2011 conference title game.

The Mika family is no stranger to the Utah spotlight, as Jacob's brother Eric totaled 15 points and seven rebounds as a 6-foot-10 freshman forward in BYU's NCAA Tournament loss to Oregon last month. Another brother, Alek, is a sophomore midfielder on the BYU lacrosse team.

In fact, all of five of Mika's older siblings attended BYU as did his parents, so it seems like a safe bet he'll be for the Cougars some day, probably rifling in 75-yard goals on the regular by then.
