Maybe the greatest defensive play in basketball history

Now, this is how you full-court press.

Blue Island (Ill.) Eisenhower High scored 85 points on offense, but the two points the Cardinals scored on defense proved to be the difference in an 87-85 victory against South Suburban Conference rival Tinley Park (Ill.) High (h/t Chicago Tribune).

While defending Tinley Park's inbounds pass, Eisenhower senior forward Kalin Hawkins deflected the ball with his left hand into the air and through the hoop for the most improbable basket of his career. Or anybody's, for that matter.

“It happened so quick that not a lot of people saw it,” Eisenhower coach Mike Curta told the Tribune, calling the bucket the longest made field goal of Hawkins' season. “It barely made the net move. There was a pause. Nobody knew if they should put two points on the board. It was wild. I saw it right away, and I was jumping up and down like an idiot.”

Hawkins finished with 11 points, just shy of his season average of 12 per game. Since being posted Saturday, the video had a little over 13,000 views at the time of this post, and we've got a hunch that number's going to end up a bit higher.

Same goes for Hawkins' Twitter follower count.

“I knew it was going in when I saw it go (up)," the 6-foot-3 senior told the paper. "It’s been crazy since. I’ve gotten a lot more followers on Twitter.”
