A Colorado junior varsity tennis coach has been arrested for blatantly asking female student-athletes to send them nude photos of their breasts under a veil of "the circle of trust," according to an Associated Press report.
Randy Majors, 58, who's also a middle school teacher in the Fruita (Colo.) Public Schools system, faces eight felony counts of sexual exploitation after the mother of a 16-year-old girl discovered a Facebook request for topless photos from the man, a police affidavit obtained by the AP revealed.
Majors, being the genius he is, allegedly sent further requests to both students and athletes even after he admitted to asking several girls for photos and handed over his computer to police, according to the AP report.
Majors, who has reportedly been teaching in Colorado's Mesa County since 1994 and is still listed as Fruita's head junior varsity coach on the website, asked the girls not tell anyone, suggesting they were in "the circle of trust", and sent a message saying he was "dying" to see the 16-year-old girl's breasts, the Associated Press reported.
Since receiving the tip from the girl's mother in November, police have allegedly identified at least eight teenage girls who exchanged messages with Majors. The tennis coach and teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave since November, a district spokeswoman told the AP. The district has also reportedly launched its own investigation and dubbed Majors' actions as "grounds for dismissal" if revealed to be true. (As an aside, isn't a confession to police and the Facebook evidence enough to terminate him?)
Majors has been released on $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 10.
