Canyon Country (Calif.) Canyon High's Vincent Fitzgerald entered Thursday's game batting .207 without an extra-base hit and three RBI. His Cowboys were riding a five-game losing streak during which they had combined for eight runs. That all changed with four swings of Fitzgerald's bat.
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound senior first baseman finished 4-for-4 with two grand slams and eight RBI in a 17-0 victory against Foothills League rival Santa Clarita (Calif.) Golden Valley High.
"I've never seen two grand slams in a game before," Canyon coach Adam Schulhofer told the Los Angeles Times after his team improved to 5-5 on the season. "He had been struggling, so this is huge for him."
After collecting six singles in his first 29 at-bats this spring, Fitzgerald's slugging percentage rose from .207 to .485 following his impressive performance, according to statistics listed on MaxPreps.com. Fitzgerald batted .317 with two home runs and 23 RBI all of last season. Needless to say, this was a career day.
