The Arapahoe High School boys basketball team won its first game 56-38 over Aurora Central on Thursday a week after a shooting at the school rocked the community in Centennial, Colo., a southern suburb of Denver.

The team dedicated the victory to senior Claire Davis, who was critically injured when she was shot by the gunman, also a fellow student. The gunman later turned the gun on himself.

Davis remains in stable but critical condition at an area hospital. The basketball team is only one example of the community rallying behind her and her family.

Arapahoe players wore 'Warrior Strong' T-shirts in pregame warmups, a reference to the school's mascot. KUSA TV in Denver reported Arapahoe students filled the visitor's bleachers for the game played on a neutral court as part of a winter tournament.

"Right now, we're just coming together to play for more than ourselves," senior Griffin Hansen told KUSA. "We have a whole school to play for and represent and, more importantly, just to play for Claire."

It was the first school school activity since the shooting Dec. 13. Students will not return to classes at Arapahoe until January.
