'Like, oh my God, did that really just happen?' sums up this girl's 70-foot buzzer-beater perfectly
Albuquerque (N.M.) Eldorado High senior guard Caitlin Duree still isn't sure this shot was real.
"I didn't know if it counted or not, because I didn't know if I got it off in time," she told the Albuquerque Journal of her game-winning 70-foot heave against crosstown rival La Cueva in a district championship game (h/t USA TODAY). "It was unreal. Like, oh my God, did that really just happen?"
It was real, all right. After La Cueva's Mandy Perea sank a couple clutch free throws to give her team a one-point lead with 1.7 seconds remaining, Duree connected on a prayer from the same spot where Perea took her freebies -- only on the opposite basket, for a 66-64 victory.
Given a day to process the incredible shot, she was remarkably gracious on Twitter.
Thank you to everybody who came out and supported us.That shot wasn't the best feeling. It was when the crowd erupted#ESWAG #DistrictChamps
